Digital, Genomic & Controlled-Environment Agriculture
Autosteer, sensors, remote sensing, genomics, drones, hydroponics, aquaponics, vertical farming, and increasingly networked production.
Scope
Agriculture became digital. Autosteer systems achieved sub-inch accuracy. Remote sensing from satellites and drones provided field-scale crop monitoring. Genomic sequencing costs dropped, enabling marker-assisted breeding and genome-wide association studies. Controlled-environment agriculture (CEA)—hydroponics, aquaponics, vertical farming—moved from experimental to commercial scale. Farm data platforms aggregated sensor, weather, and market information for decision support.

Drug Plants Under Cultivation
W. W. Stockberger (USDA) · 1915 (digitized and referenced in CEA/medicinal context) · USDA bulletin
USDA guide to cultivating medicinal plants. Remains relevant as controlled-environment production expands into pharmaceutical and nutraceutical crops.
Epitome of the Pharmacopeia and National Formulary
Various (United States Pharmacopeia) · Various editions · reference
Standardized reference for medicinal plant identification and preparation. Connects historical pharmacognosy to modern controlled-environment production of pharmaceutical botanicals.
