Scope

After World War II, agriculture entered an era of unprecedented productivity growth. The Green Revolution—led by Norman Borlaug and international research networks—developed high-yield wheat and rice varieties that dramatically increased global food production. Chemical fertilizers and pesticides became standard inputs. Combine harvesters, center-pivot irrigation, and integrated poultry operations transformed farm structure. No-till farming emerged as both a labor-saving technique and a soil-conservation strategy.
